The Head of Africa and Brazil Supply Chain at Cotton On Group speaks exclusively to Business Chief Africa magazine.

Australian retailer, Cotton On Group, has grown rapidly over its short timeline and one continent had undoubtedly been pivotal to its success – Africa.

Today, the firm has opened almost 180 stores in South Africa, six in Namibia, with additional sites in the pipeline.

To ensure that it can keep one step ahead of the ever-evolving fashion world, Cotton On Group has embarked on a mammoth supply chain transformation that has cemented its position as a fashion-forward, value-based retailer.

Developing a lean, streamlined supply chain function, the retailer set up its distribution centres so that they can complete online orders internally.

This made Cotton On Group’s new e-commerce platforms easy to execute.

“It’s supply chain 101: if you add complexity it slows down the operation,” said Phli Marais.

“Emerging markets like Africa and Brazil present huge growth opportunities for the group.”
