Pitch Your Startup 2019 sets a new record for the number of applications received

Luxembourg – ICT Spring Europe 2019 hosted the fifth edition of the international startup competition, Pitch Your Startup, setting a new record for the number of applications received.

Among the 347 entries received from all over the World, 65 startups pitched their project to dedicatedjury members, during almost 10 hours, and competed for the €150,000 prize money and the many gifts to win.

The “Smart Living” category, rewards a startup whose primary technology or service aims to create solutions in the domains of health, transportation, construction and/or energy by exploring uncharted fields on Earth and beyond. It was supported by the Chinese company DeepBlue, specialized in Artificial Intelligence. The following finalists were invited to pitch: Adok, AIRPARK GmbH, BIM-Y, Bytes & Minds, George and Shaun, HERO Bike, POLAAR Energy, Loro co., SPICA Technologies Ltd, UMITRON, Clickbye and OpenAirlines; in the end, Loro co. was awarded the first place and cash prize of €20,000.

The “Cybersecurity” category, supported by the Luxembourgish organisation, rewarded a startup whose primary technology aims at improving or creating new security technology
or outright disrupting the sector. The winner of the category, EAGLYS, was selected among the following finalists:, Ambitrace, Hacknowledge Lux, Hotshot Technologies, Keexle, L7 Defense, Lockin Company, nimble, UBIRCH, PHOENICI S.A. and Secourriel. The startup was awarded a €20,000 cash prize.

The Luxembourg-based startup Apla swept on awards last night as they not only won the “Fin- & RegTech” category, and the dedicated €20,000 cash prize, but also the Docler Holding cash prize of
€50,000 and a special gift from The LHoFT: a free startup exhibition booth at Global Venture Summit. The “Fin- & RegTech” category rewards a startup whose primary technology aims to help established
financial, legal or insurance systems improve their operations and/or functionality—or to flat out disrupt them. In addition to the winner, the finalists who were called to pitch in Luxembourg on May
21st 2019 in this vertical are: BioCatch, Coriunder, EasyPay, Tokeny, Cambridge Blockchain, Hotailors, konsentus, Vadis Technologies, STOKR, Tindeco Lingua Custodia. Apla is also one of the 12 lucky
participants of the brand new NadiFin FinTech accelerator programme powered by Middle Game Ventures and Farvest, in partnership with The LHoFT.

Fifteen startups were selected by Deloitte to pitch their startup in the category “Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning & Big Data” to have a chance to win their €20,000 cash prize: Adok, ASETS-LUX sarl,
Infiniris, eduGamiTec, EIRAVATO S.A., Groover, inHEART, Zenview, Seeing is Hearing, PatchAI, Techcyte Europe, TRIZILLIUM Technologies S.A., Yspace, Monest and Sport50. The startup PatchAI won the first
prize, while Seeing is Hearing got a special “Coup de Coeur” mention from the sponsor. Finally, the Banque Internationale à Luxembourg rewarded a Luxembourg-based startup among their 15 finalists: ANote Music, Continuous - PackaTrust, EIRAVATO S.A., F4A, GOLDBAUM, Hotshot Technologies, Keexle, Keymitt S.A., LuxAI, Movesion Luxembourg, Passbolt, STOKR, Supermiro, The Office and Virtual Rangers. The jury appointed Passbolt as winner of the “Luxembourg-based startup” prize. They also won €20,000 in cash.

In addition, Pitch Your Startup 2019 partners gave gifts to startups of their own choosing:
• SPICA Technologies Ltd won 6 months of free hosting in the coworking space, as well as a full social media marketing campaign and a professional promotion video from The Office;
• ANote Music won a ticket and accommodation to participate in one of the upcoming formats of their international startup supporting events as part of the Luxembourg Trade and Invest delegation from Luxinnovation;
• Yspace and Adok both won three months of free desk within the coworking space of the Luxembourg City Incubator;
• STOKR won a ticket to accompany Luxfactory to CES 2020;
• UBIRCH won four months of free access to Technoport’s open space in Belval as well as 32 hours of coaching from the team during that time;
• Finally, Silversquare awarded the winners of the first prize of each category with 2 free desks during 6 months at their co-working space.

This fifth edition of Pitch Your Startup confirmed Farvest ambition to play a key supportive role in the development and growth of the Grand-Duchy startup ecosystem.

The Pitch Your Startup (PYSU) initiative aims to assemble Luxembourg’s local players to support the country’s startup scene, to attract international attention, and to foster innovative ideas. Now well established, the competition opens its doors each year with the help of sponsors. Everyone’s goal? Bolstering chances of success for young businesses via financial contribution and reputation building. PYSU calls the same place home each year since 2016: ICT Spring Europe, the international tech summit.

At PYSU’s 5th edition, 75 startups were selected to pitch on May 21st in Luxembourg. They had to fall into one of the four following categories: FinTech and RegTech; Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning & Big Data; Smart Living; Cybersecurity. Winners have been announced on May 21st in the evening during the ICT Spring Gala Dinner.
